President William Ruto has reappointed five individuals as Non-Executive Chairpersons of major government boards, extending their terms for three years with effect from February 20, 2026.

The appointments cover agencies responsible for coastal development, tourism, medical research, youth affairs, and women enterprise funding.

Mzee Mwinyi Mzee has been reappointed as Non-Executive Chairperson of the Coast Development Authority, under the powers conferred by section 4 (1) (a) of the Coast Development Authority Act. The decision aims to ensure continuity in the board overseeing development initiatives along the Kenyan coast.

In the tourism sector, Samson Kipkoech Some will continue serving as Non-Executive Chairperson of the Tourism Fund Board. His reappointment is made under section 67 (4) (a) of the Tourism Act and will guide the board’s efforts to support and fund tourism initiatives across the country.

Dr. Abdillahi Ibrahim remains as Non-Executive Chairperson of the Kenya Medical Research Institute, with his tenure extended under section 6 (1) (a) of the KEMRI Order, 2021. His leadership is critical to the board overseeing medical research and related programs.

Sophy Nekoye Waliaula has been reappointed as Non-Executive Chairperson of the Youth Advisory Board, in accordance with section 16 (2) (a) of the National Youth Council Act. The board advises on policies and initiatives affecting youth development nationwide.

Finally, Dr. Jane Langat will continue leading the Women Enterprise Fund Advisory Board under paragraph 5 (1) (a) of the Government Financial Management (Women Enterprise Fund) Regulations, 2007.

The board provides guidance on programs aimed at supporting women-led enterprises across the country.

All reappointments were formally gazetted on February 20, 2026, reinforcing the President’s authority as outlined in the respective legislation governing each board. Each chairperson’s new term runs for three years, starting from the effective date of their reappointment
